The word Advent means "coming" and refers to a special liturgical season when we, as people of Christian faith, are invited to prepare ourselves spiritually to celebrate Christmas.
During Advent, we are called to reflect on the past, present, and future comings of Christ. We remember Jesus' humble first coming in our human flesh, we celebrate his presence in word and sacrament, and we eagerly anticipate his second coming in glory.
Advent is a time of waiting and prayer, as we respond to the call to repentance and conversion, echoing the words of John the Baptist, who quoted the prophet Isaiah, "Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight." (Mark 1:3b).
In this season, we are also filled with joyful hope, knowing that the salvation already accomplished by Christ will reach its fullness in time, granting us what is promised by faith.
May the peace of Christ be with you and your family, this season and always!
