As a graduate of DCDSB and among the first Performing Arts students at Monsignor Paul Dwyer CSS, Jessica nurtured her passion for the Arts and creative writing at a young age, inspired by her teachers. She began her career in DCDSB, working as a secondary English and Drama teacher for 12 years. Then she relocated to Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board as a secondary Vice Principal. She worked as Elementary Principal for seven years, before becoming System Principal of Indigenous Education at KPRDSB. Jessica has a Master of Arts from University of Toronto in Adult Education and Community Development with focuses on Arts-informed inquiry and peacebuilding. She is Poet Laureate Emeritus of Cobourg, Ontario, and a published author.
Jessica describes returning to DCDSB as a homecoming. She is a deeply spiritual educator, guided by faith in all things. Throughout her career, she has worked to remove barriers for students and to amplify student voice. She is responsible for the Pickering Family of Schools.
