The Early Intervention Classroom (EIC) is a communication-based program to support the areas of language/communication, school-readiness skills, self-regulation, play, and social-emotional development for students in Kindergarten. The small classroom placement has a maximum of 6 students per site.
Placement in the EIC will be up to one calendar year for students who have been referred for communication needs. Students will be referred to the site closest to their home address. Busing is provided.
Collaborate and Liaise: Collaborate with the school team, parents, Student Services staff and community agencies.
Assessments: Conduct and/or consult on assessments including Speech and Language/Communication to integrate strategies to address individual needs, and the Individual Education Plan.
Transition: Support the transition back to their home school by integrating program strategies that align with the student’s individual strengths and needs.
In collaboration with the school principal, the Family of Schools Coordinator will refer Year 1 and Year 2 Kindergarten students with communication challenges to the EIC. A school team meeting will be completed to discuss the services and obtain parental consent to initiate the student transfer.
