The students at St. Christopher Catholic School. have done a phenomenal job of putting reconciliation into ACTION this school year! From the start of the year students have participated in listening and learning from authentic Indigenous voices and have been supported by community partners, teachers and administrative staff.
June is Indigenous History Month and St. Christopher Catholic School wants to celebrate by taking ACTION! Mrs. Boissoin’s Grade 8 class have been learning about water systems, boil water advisories and environmental racism and injustices. They have learned that many First Nation communities do not have clean drinking and want to take action!
We here in the Durham Region respectfully acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island. St. Christopher Catholic School's action to this land acknowledgement is to make a donation to Water First. Water First supports participants in developing technical skills to go on to employment or further education in water science fields within First Nation communities. The programs also support Indigenous communities in strengthening capacity to manage and protect water resources for generations to come.
If you would like to make a donation in addressing critical water challenges through education and training skills a cashonline account has been set up at the school.
