On November 13 and 14, DCDSB staff were joined by colleagues from neighbouring school boards to participate in Violent Risk Threat Assessment (VTRA) Level 2 Training with Kevin Cameron, Executive Director, Center for Trauma Informed Practices. The VTRA model is a trauma-informed framework that serves as the foundation to Community Threat Assessment and Intervention Protocol, that is in place in Durham region. The protocol enables multidisciplinary and multiagency teams to quickly respond to clear, direct, plausible threats of serious violence. When the protocol is activated, teams are able to quickly assess whether an individual poses a risk to others and determine interventions that can be put in place to mitigate risk. This training and protocol are part of the DCDSB’s Safe and Accepting Schools initiatives to focus on prevention and intervention prior to safe schools’ incidents occurring.
