On November 8, Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School observed National Indigenous Veterans Day by showcasing different stories of Indigenous Veterans throughout the school. Some of these tributes included stories from soldiers who fought on the frontlines, stories from nurses who treated the soldiers, stories from the home-front, and stories surrounding language and how the Cree Code Talkers shaped the war.
In addition, the Grade 7 and 8 students at Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic School had Ben Marshall, an Indigenous Graduation Coach, come into their classrooms and highlight some of the stories above. The classes also participated in some code-talking of their own.
