Participation in French as a Second Language (FSL) programs, such as French Immersion, should reflect the diversity of the entire student population, including students with special education needs and English language learners. We believe that the French Immersion program is enhanced by the inclusion of all students and that French language learning is valuable for all students.
Research has identified the cognitive benefits of learning additional languages for a variety of learners. Understanding that every child is unique and has specific academic needs to be considered, educators work to meet the diverse needs of all students as they differentiate instruction and provide accommodations and/or modifications to curriculum expectations if necessary.
