At The Durham Catholic School Board we offer the following community partnership programs with Ontario Technology University in Oshawa.
Engineering Outreach Stem Programs: Students is all grades are learning the importance of technology and STEM education. We have joint programs with the faculty of engineering to learn coding, visit the wind tunnel at Ontario Technology University, partake in Artificial Intelligence (AI) workshops where we explore machine learning with software design and other sciences.
Cyber Security: Beginning in Grade 5, this program focuses on empowering young people to consider opportunities to learn computer science. The focus of this program has been on learning digital citizenship. In addition, this program explores pathways in cyber security at insurance companies, banks and other businesses in regards to protecting data on computers. Students have had the opportunity to complete maker projects, web design and collaborate on various topics related to technology in the 21st century. Students have been encouraged to become ambassadors to promote their learning in their school.
Future City: Working with Engineers Canada, Engineers for Tomorrow and Ontario Technology University students in Grade 6 - 8 work in teams to research a science theme and make a future city prototype. Students work through the research and design process. At the expo celebration students market their projects to engineers in the field.
